Friday evening we mostly got things done off of our todo list. But we did take a minute to go visit the place we are considering for Lorelai's after school care next year. There aren't many options. After that we went to get an ice cream cone and let the kids play on the playground at the school Lorelai will be going to next year. We wanted to get a chance to look at it. Unfortunately we don't have much for morning options so I hope things work out next year. I am sure they will. The kids liked getting a chance to do that.

Yesterday evening we went over to Kevin and Veronica's house for a barbeque. It was great. Their place reminded me of a vacation place it is so close to the water. It was great to talk to everyone. I have been trying to get through my list of things I have to get done and getting in the car accident has really impacted how much there is to do. I am getting close to getting back to normal, other than physical therapy and medical stuff. Today I got a big chunk done and this afternoon we hope to get outside and enjoy the great weather.

He said "no, I don't
have to go, the raisins have to go". Then he continued on with the
raisins having to go potty.

Today after work I took Lorelai to Kai's Mother's day party where his
class sang a mother's day song they had been practicing and they had a
snack. it was pretty cute stuff. I think Lorelai liked going back to
visit her old daycare. People remembered her, but I am not sure how
much she remembered others.

James brought me orange roses for our wedding anniversary and he got
me some green tea. He is so sweet and I am lucky to have such a
wonderful husband for 9 years.

Kai sounded out the word "Mat" today.
Science Fair Time

Tuesday we went to the informational meeting about Lorelai’s new school program she will be in next year. She will attend a new school that will be farther away and a longer bus ride. She seems to like the idea of going to this new school. She knows at least 3 other kids that were accepted into the program too, although that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be in the program. I think the reason she wants to go to the school is because she wants to ride the bus. I hope that it is because she wants to have more interesting classes to, but I am not sure if she thinks that. Supposedly they will have to do more homework in her new class, but they should be able to accelerate faster if they already know the material.

Then yesterday we went to the science fair. Lorelai brought her bubble gum science experiment poster to share with everyone. Other groups were there to show of robots and bug collections. The kids seemed to really enjoy the event. It makes me sad that we will be leaving the school for at least a year, but excited that Lorelai has this new opportunity too. Kai was very excited about the robots they had. He said that he wanted to make his own lego robots.

Tonight we are planning to get ready for my sister’s bridal shower. It is supposed to be a nicer weekend.

Last weekend was a beautiful sunny warm weekend. Saturday morning we
went to Kai's friend's birthday party at a bouncy place. The kids had
great fun bouncing around everywhere. Saturday I didn't to a whole
lot, I was pretty exhausted. I have been trying to run again and I was
doing pretty well on Friday. Then my run on Saturday left me feeling
really lousy. It made made my back hurt. I took a long nap on Saturday
too. I thought I was fighting a cold, but I think I may just be
suffering from allergies again. Which I guess would make sense because
our windows have been open a lot or we have been spending time
outside.

Sunday we went for another great walk. We stopped at the dog park so
Leena could get a little bit of a run. Then we went to the park and
let the kids play for a while. That afternoon I ran a bunch of errands
and did a lot of spring cleaning. I have really been enjoying cleaning
out things. I realize that sometimes I may have things I like, but if
I can't see them I don't use them and then what is the point.

Easter Egg Hunt

Today I was able to get a lot accomplished and I am recovered enough
to be able to from the accident. We went to the Easter egg hunt. The
kids each got only a few eggs, but they seemed to have fun. They also
know that they will probably get more eggs tomorrow. Kai was pretty
upset at first because the other kids were getting to the eggs that he
was going after before he could get to them. He ended up with only
three. But as soon as Lorelai saw he didn't have very many Lorelai
gave him a few of her so they had equal amounts. I am thankful she is
so sweet and caring to her brother. After that I ran to the store and
got MANY groceries. I then made/prepped all of the meals for freezing
(12 meals). I am going to be gone most of next week so I didn't want
to just leave the fresh ingredients in the house to go bad and we
badly needed some more quick meals. I am trying out a couple new
recipes so I hope they turn out good. After that Kai and I went to the
library to get some books I have on reserve to help teach Kai how to
read. But since bringing them home, he isn't acting like he is ready
to learn yet.

Bad Car Luck

The kids are doing great. This last week has been a little bit of a hiatus. Kai and I were in a car accident and the Prius was totaled. Fortunately the lady that hit us was very nice and she had insurance. Right now we are dealing with the settlement for the car. They want to give us a lot less than we think it is worth. I have been suffering from aches and pains from it all, but Kai only had a bruised thumb. Kai talked about the accident a lot every time we got in the car after that for a week. He would talk about where it was and ask if we were going to be in another one. During the accident he screamed ow and afterwards he was in shock for a while. I kept asking him if he hurt any where and he wouldn’t answer me. He wasn’t really moving except for looking around, it made me pretty nervous. But he wasn’t screaming of pain so I thought that he was probably ok. Although I didn’t think I was in pain until the next couple of days the pain started to hit me. I tried to take a pain pill during the night but it made me feel really sick and I still felt some pain. I felt like the feeling of sickness wasn’t worth being alleviated of only part of the pain. I took extra ibuprophen as the doctor suggested but it didn’t feel like it did anything. Kai and I went to urgent care the next day because I was feeling tingling in my foot and it wouldn’t go away and just to get Kai checked out.

Last week Lorelai had her school play. She was very cute as she played a starlet in Peter Pan. The grandparents came from Oregon to watch her. Kai has been talking more and more lately. He has been saying surprisingly large words like ostracized. He re-told us the story of Abiyoyo in the back seat and he was very excited to tell us the story. He has quite the imagination.

Funny thing is – or not so funny. Yesterday someone asked me if my car was in a hit and run. I said, no, it was totaled last week. Later I got a phone call from someone that said the car that had my parking pass in it was in a hit and run in (near where james works). So the location checked out and I called Boeing security to find out more about it. Fortunately it wasn’t too bad, just the bumper was scraped up. It sure made us nervous because they didn’t have any information about the damage with the first phone call. But they caught the guy and he had insurance, so it looks like we will be contacting his insurance company.

Last night I felt like I had enough energy (not much) to go look at a couple of cars. The kids had a blast looking at the cars. They wanted to sit in all of them. The told us which one their favorites were. At first it was the CRV, then it was the Rav4. It was pretty cute. Kai really wanted to sit in a sports car but it was locked.

This morning on the way to Kai’s school we saw a car on the freeway that had a huge fire. Kai told me how our car would catch on fire if we were in an accident. He keeps reliving the accident.

Lost the first tooth & Bike ride without training wheels

I found a minimalists website and I am intrigued lately. I think I
have always wanted to be a bit of a minimalist, kids have made a big
change away from that. We always had to have the car seat, strollers,
baby swing, bouncer to make our lives easier. I think generally we buy
a lot less things than many people. But it has inspired me to start
cleaning through some of the things and take a cautious look at what
we are purchasing. Although I usually think every time I purchase
something ..is this something I am really going to use?... The website
I read was talking about how getting rid of some of the things you
don't really need can make more room and less messes. I think it might
be time to remove some of those kids toys that are never used to allow
for the toys that are used. I am looking forward to spring cleaning
this year. I started to really clean things out when I went shoe
shopping. I needed to replace some of my basic black shoes -- black
pumps and black sandals, I was able to clean out a lot of my shoes
that were just starting to get worn out. I am impressed my the "lack"
of shoes that I have.

Lorelai lost her first tooth yesterday and then another tooth today.
She was so excited. Her first teeth have already been partially
replaced by her adult teeth. The tooth fairy came last night and left
her money and the tooth she lost today is already under her pillow for
tonight. Last night she lost it during dinner time and today she was
working on it while she was listening to music.

This weekend Lorelai got pink eye. I am actually at home with her
right now because she still has it and I felt bad getting her whole
class exposed considering most kids in Kai's class has had it. It is
starting to look better though so we hope she will be back at school
tomorrow. Today we spend some time cleaning some things around the
house and she is coloring pictures of our family right now.

Yesterday Misty and I went to Nordstrom and met with a beauty stylist.
It was great first because she didn't paint me like a clown. Second I
got a few products that I am really happy with, they keep my skin nice
an moisturized (a problem I fight with a lot). I was also
coincidentally running out of quite a few things at the same time so
it worked out great. I was a little surprised about how "in trouble" I
was for not using a face cleanser and face lotion. She didn't like to
hear that I cleaned my face in the shower with a bar of soap and the
same lotion I use on my body. It was fun!

This weekend another exciting thing happened. James took the training
wheels of Kai's bike. At first he was pretty scared but then he
started to get the hang of handling the bike. He isn't the best about
constantly petalling yet, but he is fine with balancing. It isn't too
surprising because he does that all the time with the two wheelers at
school they are just bikes that have lower seats a little more like
the three wheelers you can ride in the sand (except only two wheels.)
He seems to be pretty proud of him self and having a lot of fun at the
end (at the beginning there was some crying).

Disneyland and more

A lot has happened since my last blog. First, we went to Disneyland.
It was their first airplane ride and first roller coaster ride. They
seemed to have a lot of fun. Lorelai still talks about how she loves
her bulls eye pony (from toy story III) we got her because it reminds
her of her best vacation ever. Kai picked out a Buzz Light year with
lights that spin that he plays with so much, I think it is still his
favorite toy. Kai was a bit scared of some of the extra dark rides and
he didn't prefer the roller coasters. Lorelai cried on the roller
coasters the first day, but by the end, she decided that she liked
them. We decided that Space Mountain might be a little much for them
this time though, so they didn't go on that one. He started to really
enjoy the characters by the end though. I took him to see Tigger and
Pooh and he loved them. It was fun for everyone, it was tiring though.
I am thinking a beach should be on our list for the next vacation. At
the end of the vacation we ended it with my Grandma Vada's memorial
service at the Crystal Cathedral. That church is a little ridiculous
for a church with it's size. But her ashes ended up where she wanted
them.

Lately we decided to get a family membership at the local YMCA that is
really nice. It isn't what I usually think of when I think YMCA. It
has a great pool for the kids with a water slide and a mushroom that
spurts out water. The great part too is that there is a shallow end of
about 3 feet that the kids can play in by themselves. They can touch
the bottom, but it is deep enough that they can swim too. There also
is a kids yoga that we have been going for 4+ and they say that
parents come to. We have turned it into a family yoga. May as well do
it all together. The kids were really excited about trying it out. Now
they aren't quite as excited about it. But they do a great job trying
to do the moves at times and I think they have fun doing it.

Lorelai is in the middle of play practice now. She is going to be a
starlet for her school play. The practice has been getting to be more
and more the closer we get to the play. She is keeping busy with the
play, ballet, daily homework, and she has a reading and math website
from school she goes on a lot. We have been trying to go to the YMCA
pool more and more since we have a membership and the kids love that.
Lorelai loves to practice swimming so that she can swim far enough to
be able to go on the water slide.

Kai has been up to his normal self. Right now he has pink eye that he
is recovering from. He is excited to be starting swimming lessons
soon. We plan to start the kids in a session after Lorelai's play is
over. He has been full of pretend shooting bad guys. He has been full
of questions. Everything is "what is that?" He also seems pretty sad
that his best friend left his school a few months ago. He keeps
talking about how he wants to see Seamus again. Lately I have been
hearing more and more about Vincent.

On the Airplane

This week has been fun. We recently got a YMCA family membership because the facility by our house is really nice. We have been having a lot of fun going to the gym together. There is kid yoga once a week that we can all do as a family. The yoga is actually hard enough for us to keep us challenged. Usually the kids don't participate the whole time, sometimes they will play with their mat or just watch. We have also been enjoying the pool because it has a nice shallow end that the kids don't need as much assistance in. Then James and I will take turns watching them. I will run and James gets a chance to swim, which he has been missing. It is also nice because it isn't nearly as cold as the last pool we used to go to, so I it isn't so freezing swimming there. They have childcare too, but we have uses that yet, I think it is great to give them a chance to get some exercise too. We also have been using the hot tub there for short times.

This week I injured my toe pretty badly one morning. I stubbed it really bad it was all purple and very sore.I am a little concerned I broke it. It felt much better for walking after just 3 days. It still bugs me but I am still able to run without too much pain now. It actually hurt the worst when I was trying to balance on one foot for yoga.

We are on an airplane right now on our way to Disneyland. The kids have been so excited. This weekend we took time packing and getting things done and this morning we woke up and left on our way. The kids are having fun riding on an airplane for the first time and just experience the process of parking, going through security, etc. They are actually very well behaved especially compared to some of the kids around here. We will see if it continues.

Lorelai brought her journal to document her trip. Kai is ready to experience it all and keeps asking when we are going to be there, I think he just doesn't have a full sense of time yet.

New Shoes

Last week Kai suffered from an infection that led us to the dr's office and then to Children's Urgent Care. It was tough for me to see him in pain. Fortunately, for antibiotics, he was much better the next day even.

This weekend we mostly did errands and sorts. I took the kids shoe shopping and Kai was so excited to try on all of the different shoes and run in them in the store. He picked some star wars shoes that light up on the toe and heal. Lorelai chose some running shoes that look a lot like my running shoes. They were both very excited to wear their new shoes wherever they go now. New shoes is exciting for them now I guess.

Lorelai has been closing the door to her room and listening to her music for hours at a time. She just wants to listen to her songs over and over by herself. Kai has been a little sweetie always wanting to come sit in my lap. She also has been writing things on post-it notes and leaving them on our door. This morning Kai had a message that said I love you Kai. Yesterday Lorelai left us hearts on post-it notes in our bathroom.
