Lorelai's Week of Kindergarten and Kai's Pony Ride
Saturday, September 4, 2010, 03:28 PM
When I picked Lorelai up from her first day of school on Monday the first thing she said (after she excitedly ran to see me) was that she didn't go to the principle's office. I thought, either the preschool teachers had scared her about the principle or that she just has low expectations. Then she told me that there were 2 boys that fought and got sent to the principles office. She told me that someone she knew was in her class. Sophia from her dance class was in her kindergarten class. It was pretty exciting for her. On her first day of school she also had PE.

I had a rough week. I am still recovering, but the beginning of the week I had a fever and a really bad sore throat. I took her out of school early on Monday so that I could get tested for strep throat. I took Lorelai too, just to be sure she wasn't carrying it, even though she seemed all better. My fever is gone, I am able to do a lot more stuff, but the it has been a tough week for me.

Tuesday since I had a fever and woke up in the middle of the night so nauseous I ended up working from home and dropping Lorelai off at school and picking her up again. She was so exhausted after her busy day. She had a hard time staying awake while cuddling. No naps or rest time at Kindergarten.

Wednesday was her early day. Grandma picked her up and took her and Grandpa out to lunch. By the end of the week, Lorelai is getting used to where to go in the morning and where to get picked up. She said that she has been spending time with Sherry and Sophia at school. She complained that recess was really short in her new school.

Mondays are PE, Tuesdays are art, Wednesdays are music, and Friday's are library. She seems like maybe she doesn't get as much free coloring time as she did in preschool. That and I think it is supposed to be relaxing for kids. She has been coming home and wanting to spend a lot of time coloring after school.

This weekend we went to stay with Grandma and Grandpa in the condo. Mainly so that the kids would be out of James' way so that he could work on the house. The kids have been doing a lot of painting and coloring. I got a run in on the waterfront (my sickness is more like a bad cold now). We all went for a walk outside. The weather has been a little rainy, but not too bad yet.

Kai had a great time at school this week. He is getting a little used to Lorelai not being at his school. I think he kind of likes the attention of getting to go home and get to school with just one of us. It seems like it is faster because they both aren't there to distract each other. He got to ride a pony at school on Wednesday. They tell me he was the only one in his class that actually wanted the pony to move when he was on it. I guess he liked it a lot. Friday was his last water play day. He has been getting so good with his words. He does a lot of repeating our words. I will hear James talking to Lorelai and hear Kai whispering the same words that James was saying.

Lorelai's First Day of Kindergarten
Monday, August 30, 2010, 01:26 PM
I took Lorelai to her first day of kindergarten this morning! Yesterday we finished writing her name on things and getting things all ready. I helped her set her alarm clock so she knew when to wake up. This morning she hopped out of bed before I heard her alarm go off. She claims it went off. She got dressed quickly. She had a temperature this weekend, but it was gone by this morning. So I took some Dayquil (because I got the fever last night) and managed to get dressed and walk her to school. Thank goodness for Dayquil. That stuff works so well. She was very talkative this morning. She double checked her lunchbox to be sure that dad filled all of her containers. She brushed her teeth and wanted a ribbon tied in her hair. She barely touched her oatmeal. I am hoping that it is because she is excited. As we were walking to school she was talking and talking until we started to run into the other parents and kids. Then she had very open eyes and didn’t say much. She was I think taking everything in. I got a little choked up on the way to her school. I couldn’t help but cry a little. Lorelai kept trying to ask me questions and I had to clear my throat and take a second to answer. I don’t think she noticed. But after we got to the school we found the classroom and she met her teacher. I helped show her where to put her backpack, her lunchbox, and I showed we found her name tag on the table for her seat. She just then observed everything. She told me before that she didn’t want me to leave her there… but when it actually came time for me to leave her there, she seemed fine. She may have been a little nervous, but I think mostly she was just trying to see everything. I am glad that she was able to go to her first day of school. She was so cute and held my hand all the way to the classroom. She was excited when we passed by the school library because she had been in there before and she knew what it was. I tried to tell her what the other kids names were at her table, but she was just looking at everything and had a hard time paying attention.

Kindergarten Picnic and the 2 year old Rebel
Thursday, August 26, 2010, 01:24 PM
Kai seems to be finally over his sickness.

Lorelai got to have a picnic at her kindergarten yesterday and ride a school bus. Grandma picked her up at daycare and took her to her school. She came back with some neat school supplies and told me all about how she rode on the bus and it drove a little ways. She said she sat by other kids on the bus. She got to use her new lunch box and thermos. When I got home she was coloring in a new coloring/activity book she got that had bus safety stuff. She keeps saying how she is so excited.

I have been trying to talk to her about how things will work. We talked about her alarm clock waking her up in the morning. We also talked about how I would take her and show her where her classroom is and pick her up after school. She said she is excited.

Kai has been busy being himself. He really enjoys counting. Sometimes he counts to 10 on his own correctly and sometimes he skips around. He doesn’t like it when I give him a hug and kiss in the morning when he is leaving. He runs away and tries to hide as soon as he finds out it is time for me to give hugs and kisses. He also is a little defiant about not going to the bathroom sometimes. Other than his little rebellious spouts he has been in a pretty good mood.

Wedding #1
Monday, August 23, 2010, 02:35 PM
We had a busy weekend. The kids really seemed to enjoy the wedding. They danced, ran around, ate cake, and were kids. We ended up staying really late so that they could have some cake. I didn’t really realize it was as late as it was. They had fun playing with Lily. Kai had a hard time sitting through the wedding ceremony. It was a good thing there were rose petals by him because he enjoyed playing with them during the ceremony. The baskets of petals were for throwing on the wedding party as they came back down the aisle. He was the main one who caught on to throwing the petals at the people. He thought that was pretty fun. Then some of the other people were bringing him their basket of flowers because he enjoyed it so much. Kai kept giving Lily kisses during the night. She then said, “You must love me because you give me so many kisses”. She kept saying over and over, “Kai is such a cutie”.

Saturday night Lily came over to have a sleep over with them. Lorelai was very excited to have her first sleep over. She cleaned her room and was very anxious to help make Lily’s bed. Since we got home pretty late, they whispered for a little while and then fell asleep pretty quickly. In the morning the three kids played as we got ready to take them all to the zoo. Since Lily is from Wyoming my mom tells me they don’t have much of zoo there (if they have one). The kids had fun looking at all of the animals and running around the park together. We stopped to have some lunch and then went to my parent’s condo so that they could have their naps. We had dinner and then left quickly to get them to bed at a decent time. They had a tiring weekend. They didn’t get to make up on their sleep like they normally do on the weekends.

Meeting Cousin Lily
Saturday, August 21, 2010, 11:20 AM
Kai has been suffering from diarrhea still. He is almost all better we think now. But I stayed home with him Wed and Thursday and James stayed home with him Tuesday and Friday. He was fun watching. It was nice to spend some time alone with him. I took him to the park at Lorelai's elementary school. He had fun going down the slide, playing in the sand box, and talking to the man that was working there. Kai told the man that he had a broom at home and that he helped sweep at home too. He did a lot of pretending he was a fireman, playing with trucks, his cape, and all sorts of his other toys. Wednesday after his nap we went to Joann's. He was quite popular with all of the workers. Everyone kept saying how cute he was. He told the cashier that he had all of the stuff at hims home as he pointed to all of the candy and snacks. I asked him what some of the stuff was and he said, "I don't know". I then told him that we didn't have any of that stuff at home. He really enjoys making loud deep grunting sounds and sounds that "trucks" make. He really acted like he wasn't sick. He was in such a good mood, full of giggles and really sweet.

Friday night I took Lorelai to meet her cousin Lily visiting from Wyoming. This is the first time they met. They gave each other a big hug when they met each other and they had a lot of fun together. We went to my cousin Danielle's rehearsal dinner. Lorelai gave her some art that she made Lily and Lily seemed very excited to receive it. The kids did really well sitting in their seats eating food and giggling most of the time. This morning we are doing baths and we hope they get some good naps in today. Kai gets to meet Lily tonight. He is so excited.
